In April 2017 agreement was reached with the German retailer PENNY to conduct an employee training programme as first German REFRESH pilot project.

This reflects earlier evaluations and decisions of the German REFRESH Pilot Working Platform on five priority focus areas for pilot projects.

Together with PENNY, CSCP developed a workshop concept and various teaching materials for a train-the-trainers workshop as well as for training apprentices from three consecutive years of apprenticeship. The overall objective is to raise their awareness on the general importance to reduce food waste and about measures that can be taken within shops as well as on how to support customers.

The train-the-trainers workshop will be conducted by CSCP in early September 2017 with thirteen PENNY trainers. From autumn 2017 to spring 2018 these will then deliver the training to approximately 800-900 PENNY apprentices.

Experiences and feedback of the train-the-trainers workshop will be shared – among other topics – with the other members of the German REFRESH Steering Committee meeting at its upcoming 5th meeting, taking place on 11 October 2017 in Wuppertal.
